GBOC – Genuine Best Operators Club

(reprinted from the newsletter, subscribe here)

In an effort to be the best of the best of the best (you get the idea), MPG Motors is part of the first industry scooter 20 group. Run by Gart Sutton and Associates a 20 Group is common in the powersports industry for auto, motorcycle and RV dealers. Approximately twenty dealerships, physically separate from each other so as not to compete, share everything about their business, their costs and sales numbers, what’s working and what isn’t, things to watch out for and tips to get things working better. MPG Motors is in the first one ever for scooter dealers. This has been the brainchild and vision of the Genuine Scooter Company President, Philip McCaleb to better position scooter dealers as transportation providers for the future.

It’s not cheap but I view it as the best money I can spend to get MPG Motors to the next level. We see powersports as gaining an ever increasing piece of the practical and pleasure transporation pie in the US and this is our way for this organization to reach that goal.

We are not alone in this scooter group as a dealership that also sells motorcycles but the key thing is the people in this group are a “Who’s Who” of the top scooter dealers in the country.

As I watch the snow melt here in Denver and begin the second day of this meeting, we are glad we made the commitment and we think you’ll get a real benefit from our participation.

NESBA – Northeast Sport Bike Association

I want to let you all know that we have “track days” in this area and usually the first one as a novice is free. If riding is an art, I believe we have a lot of budding artists at MPG Motors. In a track day, you ride on a race track in a controlled group led by an instructor. I think track days are the best way to build a riding skillset in a controlled environment at a racetrack by folks who have been there and done that! Here is some information from our local organization, NESBA.

The Northeast Sportbike Association (NESBA) is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization, formed in 1996 by sportbike enthusiasts and former racers who understand and appreciate the difference between riding fast and riding well.

Our purpose is to get sportbikers on the track – where they can ride to their fullest potential without the limitations, distractions, and hazards of the street. We operate on the premise, “Ride Fast, Ride Safe”. We believe riders can and should do both … in a structured environment, free from the free-for-all mentality of the street or the dogfight mentality of racing.
